Feitian ePass FIDO-NFC Security Key Recensioni
:
Get's the job done, and can't ask more for the price. NFC part does not work perfectly for Samsung Galaxy S8+. Other than that if you are looking for a cheap option this is it!
First attempt at ordering, someone packaged this in with a book I had ordered. The key is very small and must have slipped through the large gaps in the folded cardboard book packaging. No key. Amazon credited me and I ordered it again.
I'm trying to use this as a backup key to authenticate LastPass (my primary is a Yubikey). One of the questions on Amazon is "Does this work with LastPass". The manufacturer Feitian answered "yes".
This is false. It does not register with Lastpass. It may "work" in some lesser mode that is non-obvious, but this is a bad bad answer and disingenuous at best.
The documentation does not address anything but use with a Google account. This is going to be returned unless the manufacturer can provide guidance. Their answer and any descriptions should be corrected.
I've got this key and one from Yubico (the blue one to be specific). The Yubico one works on all of my computers except for one. This key works on everything, and it works great. It's a tiny but smaller as well, which is nice.
Oh yeah, and the best part, it has NFC! So far this doesn't work on iThings (I hear Apple locks down the NFC chip), but it works great on Android!
Good enough that I'm thinking of buying a couple more for family and friends. Wish they offered them in other colors!
It works well with both USB and NFC. It doesn't bend or flex, and seems quite study. NFC range is decent, and you probably don't want more. Keep in mind that as of the end of 2016 U2F NFC support isn't great. You will quickly get some wear bands on the usb contact pads, but they seem thick enough to handle quite a few insertion cycles.
I understand some buyers may be put off by it being made in China (as opposed to US/Sweden for Yubikey), but it isn't like everything else you own likely isn't produced there, and it says the chip is from NXP semiconductors/Freescale which is a dutch company.
As a side note, buying direct from Feitian currently lists a month ship time, but at least my order they shipped much faster via 3-day UPS from China to the US.
This device could be really great if Feitian would release some decent software for it. It's great in that it supports U2F and NFC so perhaps that alone is worth the price, but it also supports OTP and CCID modes which is incredible for the price. The problem is that these other two modes really require decent utility software to utilize and their OTP_Tool_2.6 utility is really pretty bad. Unlike U2F which is static and requires no configuration, OTP and CCID require fiddling with things like private keys, response length, identities, etc. The utility lets you set up an identity by creating a private key (random key generation supported) and setting set the OTP output length but that's it. Once created, there's no way to retrieve the private key or the current OTP counter value (at least that I could see) or otherwise do anything with the identity.
That being said, I DID get OTP to work with Keepass2 password manager using the OTP plugin as you can see the private key on identity creation and can then use zero as the initial counter, but since the counter increments each time you press the button on the stick, it's possible Keepass2 and the stick could desynchronize and the only way to get them back in sync would be to re-create a new identity and start back with a zero counter. I didn't mess around at all with the CCID functionality since there's no real identity management functionality in the utility.
In summary, if you just need U2F with NFC, this is a great buy. If you feel adventuresome and want to try OTP or CCID functionality, the utility is the limiting factor. Hopefully they'll update it someday, but who knows.
